Dr. Tong graduated from The University of Hong Kong in 1997 and became a core member of the Division of Esophageal Surgery and later the Division of Esophageal and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery of Queen Mary Hospital since 2005. He also is the deputy director of trauma and disaster services of Queen Mary Hospital

Dr. TONG is interested and have been active in research. This is evident by the list of publications that include 5 book chapters, more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 34 conference abstracts in journals include esophageal and gastric cancers, benign and functional foregut disorders as well as bariatric and metabolic diseases.

He is affiliated to twenty-three, local and international, professional bodies. There are other administrative roles such as being the presidents of several professional bodies including Hong Kong Obesity Society, Hong Kong Telemedicine Association and The Hong Kong Society of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons.

Dr. TONG is currently the Honorary Consultant at the Surgery Centre, Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital. He has been involving in more charity activities such as delivering talks in functions organized by charity groups, provide health related knowledge in the media and provide opinions in medical related issues in charity groups in the district of his secondary school (The Kwai Ching District).
