Asan Medical Center | Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center

Dr. Byong Duk Ye is a Professor of Gastroenterology of Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea. He is also the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, Asan Medical Center. His research focus is on the etiopathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including genetic background of IBD. He is also interested in the epidemiology, clinical characteristics and outcomes of IBD as well as in integrating clinical factors, biomarkers, and genetic markers to predict outcomes and response to therapies in IBD. He is working as the Director of Scientific Committee, Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Diseases and the Director of the 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Organization for Crohn's and Colitis (AOCC 2023), in conjunction with the 6th International Meeting on Intestinal Diseases and Annual Congress of the Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Diseases (IMKASID 2023).

Dr. Ye earned his medical degree from Seoul National University College of Medicine in Korea, and earned his PhD degree at the Graduate School of Medicine, Seoul National University. He completed an internship, residency, and a clinical and research fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Seoul National University Hospital. Dr. Ye was a visiting scientist to the Cedars-Sinai F. Widjaja Foundation Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute from 2014 to 2016. Dr. Ye has published more than 300 articles on inflammatory bowel diseases and lower GI diseases in many peer-reviewed journals including Lancet, Gastroenterology, and Gut and is a reviewer of several scientific journals.
