Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Asian Pacific Digestive Week Federation, I would like to congratulate Professor Min-Hu Chen together
with his team for hosting the Asian Pacific Digestive Week, or APDW 2022 Congress jointly with the 22nd Congress of
The APDW Congress is the flagship of the Federation, and the platform through which its four Founder Members,
namely, the Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology, the Asian-Pacific Society of Digestive Endoscopy, the Asian
Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver and the International Society of Digestive Surgery- Asia Pacific Section
envision to bring about greater collaboration across the region.
One of the missions of APDWF is to promote and co-ordinate discussion and exchange of ideas and results relating to
the diagnosis, treatment, research and prevention of digestive diseases throughout Asia-Pacific countries and beyond.
The Board is glad to see that the APDW 2022 is carrying out this important tradition once again, bringing gastroenterologists,
hepatologists, endoscopists, surgeons and allied health professionals together for this multidisciplinary programme.
The Local Organising Committee has done a wonderful job in inviting a diverse selection of eminent doctors and scientists
not just from Asia-Pacific Region, but around the world and I have no doubt that everyone will take back important
lessons over the next few days to bring your practice to new heights.
The past 3 years have been especially difficult for collaboration. The spread of the devastating Covid-19 Pandemic has
forced the world of medical education into the digital age, and APDW 2022 is no different. Although we are fortunate
that the virtual space has allowed medical education to continue unhindered, physical isolation has seen a significant
drop in exchanges between doctors from different nations.
While I regret that the development of Covid-19 in China in recent months has resulted in APDW 2022 going fully
virtual and depriving us from Xi’an’s wonderful hospitality, I can draw comfort from the knowledge that Prof Min-Hu
Chen and his team have delivered a worldclass scientific program fully embodying the missions of APDWF.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the committee for pushing on despite the monumental difficulties they have
faced in these trying times to promote medical education in the Asia-Pacific Region.
Thank you, and I trust the next few days will be fulfilling for everyone.
President, Asian Pacific Digestive Week Federation
Dear Professor Fan Dai-ming, the President of APDWF, Mr Wang Da Fang from Chinese Medical Association, Dear Colleagues and Friends, ladies and gentlemen,
On this important occasion, the opening of Asia-Pacific Digestive Diseases Week 2022, jointly with the 22nd Congress of Gastroenterology China, I would like to congratulate on behalf of Chinese Society of Gastroenterology, and to welcome all the delegates from Asia-pacific regions and all over the world, to participate in this conference.
This year’s APDW, jointed together with the Annual Congress of Chinese Society of Gastroenterology, will be an online virtual meeting. A large panel of renowned experts within and outside the Asian-Pacific region will share their latest innovations and unique experience in the field of gastroenterology, GI endoscopy, GI surgery and hepatology, from basic research to clinical practice. The APDW and CGC remain committed to promoting the exchange of our experience in digestive diseases and expanding continued education in the Asian-Pacific digestive community. In view of the comprehensive program, I believe it will be another academic feast for our fellow colleagues to share scientific discoveries and advance education at this APDW2022 and CGC2022.
This is the third time the APDW held in Mainland China. Chinese Society of Gastroenterology, together with Chinese Society of Digestive Endoscopy, Chinese Society of Hepatology and Chinese Society of Surgery, under the umbrella of Chinese Medical Association, have made great contributions to the APDWs in Beijing, Shanghai and Xi’an. Although so many uncertainties caused by the pandemic have been overcome, it is still not feasible to hold the conference onsite in the historical and cultural city of Xi’an. The Local Organizing Committee had to transform the APDW2022 from a hybrid format into an entire virtual meeting in the last minute. We are grateful to the Local Organizing Committee led by Professor Kaichun Wu, collaborating closely with APDWF for their great efforts and contribution to make this event possible. My special thanks also go to the Chinese Medical Association and the Medical Association of Shaanxi province for their support. Thank you!
I wish the APDW2022 and CGC2022 to be a productive and successful one and all participants enjoy your time during the conference. Thank you for your attention.
