Professor Siew Ng is Professor at the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, and Assistant Dean (Development) of Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of London and the Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) from Imperial College London. She is Fellow of the American Gastroenterology Association, Royal College of Physicians of London, Edinburg and Hong Kong.
Her main research interests include identification of microbial targets for biomarker development and modulation of microbiome for therapeutic applications in inflammatory bowel disease. She has pioneered IBD epidemiology research in Asia-Pacific and brought together over 20 countries and 30 centers to study IBD. She is developing a 100K mother-baby longitudinal microbiome cohort in China for IBD prevention.
She has published over 300 full scientific articles in Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, Microbiome, Lancet, Cell Host Microbes, Gut and Gastroenterology. Her work in IBD has been highlighted by two U.S. journalists in Nature and Environmental, Health and Science and she is the editor of two books selling over 50,000 copies worldwide. She was past Scientific Secretary of the International Organization of IBD and past President of Hong Kong IBD Society. She is Associate Editor of Gut.
